He was a graduate of Brown University in 1899, where he was editor in chief of the Brown Daily Herald, was later general manager of the Conewango Furniture Company at Warren, Pennsylvania.

He was graduated from Brown University. After his college days he followed a business life along manufacturing lines for a few years. About 1909 he engaged in journalism, a career for which his fine literary scholarship afforded him an excellent equipment. He became an editor on The Index of Pittsburgh, an illustrated society journal. [GPHAV, 566]
