General Notes: Husband - Samuel Hays

He was born on the family homestead farm in Connoquenessing township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and remained with his parents until 1822, when he started a small store in one room of the house. He carried on merchandising in connection with farming for twenty years, and this was the pioneer store of that vicinity. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, and in politics, a Republican.
