He first attended the schools of Brady township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and later studied at Pennsylvania College, at Gettysburg. Afterward he entered the office of his uncle, G. B. Goodlander, of Clearfield, and after learning the printer's trade he took charge of the entire business of the office.
