He was a resident of Irwin, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was a farmer and for fifty years conducted a food business.

He was a pioneer farmer of Murrysville, Pennsylvania. A large portion of his active life, was spent in Penn township, Westmoreland County, where he was superintendent of roads for several terms.
