General Notes: Husband - John Hays
He came, with his wife and four children, from Londonderry, Ireland, to America in 1735 or 1736, and settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania. After the burning of his house in that place he removed to Northampton County, where he kept a public house and store on the road leading from Bethlehem to Gnadenhütten. During the Indian troubles he used to beat a drum upon a hill-top near his home to warn the settlers of approaching danger.
He and his wife came to America from Ireland in 1730, one record stating that they came from Donegal, another that they came from Londonderry. They settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania, where their dwelling was burned. They then removed to Northumberland County, in 1732, where they kept a public house and store.
Of his five sons, all except William, who died young, served in the Revolutionary War; two of them were said to have been with parties left to keep up the camp fires at Trenton when Washington surprised the British at Princeton.
He and his wife were emigrants to America from Londonderry, Ireland, who, after a short stay in Chester County, Pennsylvania, moved to the "Irish Settlement", Allen township, Northampton County.
