General Notes: Husband - Elisha Burritt Gray
In 1849 he first visited Venango County, Pennsylvania, and engaged in the iron business at the Valley Furnace at Sugar Creek. The firm was known as Raymond & Gray. (According to Mr. Gray the scarcity of the material and not the tariff was the cause of the failure of the furnace business.) He was also engaged in iron making at Marquette, and on the Cumberland river, Kentucky. He was a contractor at bridge building for several years. He was also an oil operator and producer. In 1878 he was collector of taxes. For several years he was also in the insurance business. [HVC 1879, 497]
He was born in Campbell County, Kentucky. [BAFC, 97]
