He was educated in the public schools of Franklin, Pennsylvania, to which place the family moved in 1880, and he was graduated in the high school of that city in 1889. After leaving school he was employed for a time in the offices of the Eclipse Refining Company, and in 1903 he removed to California, where he entered the employ of the Citrus Union. He was later connected with the Fay Fruit Company and resided in Redlands, California.
