General Notes: Husband - William Haslett

He was educated in the common schools of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and at the Western University in the same city. About 1832 he came to Butler, Pennsylvania, soon after commenced reading law with Judge John Bredin, and was admitted to the bar December 11, 1837. He followed his profession for a brief period and then embarked in the newspaper business. His early political affiliations were with the Whig party, and on the organization of the Republican party he united with it. In 1844 he was elected a member of the legislature, and in 1849 he was elected to the State senate. He always took a very active part in local politics, and gave an unswerving support to the Whig and Republican parties. In 1870 he was appointed United States store keeper, which position he filled until his death.
