General Notes: Husband - Addison Stewart Marquis

His education was obtained in the public schools of Rochester and New Brighton townships, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and at the Freedom Academy. Soon after completing his studies he began the management of the home farm, and afterward became the owner of about eight acres of the old homestead, upon which he lived until the spring of 1914. He later resided at 618 Seventh avenue, New Brighton, Pennsylvania. In political action he bound himself to the dictates of no party, but gave his support to men or measures based solely upon their merits and casting his ballot accordingly. He was elected by his neighbors to fill the offices of school director and supervisor. With his wife he was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Like three of his brothers, he saw service in the army of the United States, enlisting in Company H, One Hundred and Twenty-third Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, in 1862, and serving for nine months. Among the battles in which his regiment participated and in which his company was in motion were South Mountain, Second Bull Run, and Fredericksburg. He belonged to the Ancient Order of United Workmen.
