General Notes: Husband - James H. Graham
He was born on the family homestead farm in Cranberry township, Butler County, PA. He received a common school education, was reared a farmer, and learned the tailor's trade, which he followed for six years. In 1849 he removed to Bedford county, engaged in business there, and subsequently purchased 124 acres in South Woodbury township, upon which he lived for ten years. In February, 1865, he enlisted in Company D, Ninety-ninth Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until the close of the war. He was at the capture of Petersburg, and the surrender of General Lee's army at Appomattox, and was mustered out in June, 1865. In 1870 he returned to Butler county, and purchased a farm of 100 acres in Penn township. He was a Republican, took an active interest in local affairs, and was elected to the offices of justice of the peace, tax collector and school director in his township. He was an elder in the Presbyterian church, and was superintendent of the Sabbath school for several years.
