He was a soldier of the Revolution, descended from a pioneer family of Lan-caster County, Pennsylvania, whither they had emigrated from Ireland prior to the Revolution. After the war had ended, he settled in Allegheny County, about seven miles from Allegheny, where he followed farming until his death.
