General Notes: Husband - Samuel C. Sarver

He was born on his father's farm in Salem township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and continued to reside there until his marriage. His brother David and his sister Matilda remained with him and they together operated the farm. In 1891, however, immediately after his marriage, he purchased the old Frederick Shutt farm. Early on, the coal industry began to develop in that region and the coal mining companies bought the coal underlying the various farms. Much of this was sold by the owners when the business first started for as low as fifty dollars an acre, but Mr. Sarver was in no hurry to sell his rights and retained them until 1910, when he disposed of them at nine hundred dollars an acre.
He was a staunch supporter of the principles and policies of the Republican party. He and his family were affiliated with the Zion Lutheran Church of Greensburg.
