General Notes: Husband - Thomas Harper
On reaching the age of majority, he remained in the vicinity of Steubenville, Ohio, and followed boating on the Ohio, Kanawha, and other rivers. In 1819 he visited Washington County, Pennsylvania, where he met his wife. In the spring of 1821, he and his wife, and two children, moved to Butler County, Pennsylvania. They settled in what is now Jackson township, and lived there until the fall of 1842, when they removed into Cranberry township. They were the parents of fifteen children, total; thirteen of whom grew to maturity, and eleven of the number were still living in 1895, six sons and five daughters, the oldest seventy-four and the youngest fifty-four years of age. The parents were Methodists and reared their children in that faith. Originally a Jackson Democrat, Mr. Harper was carried away with the Know-Nothing craze, and subsequently drifted into the Republican party. [HBC 1895, 1118]
He was born on Mingo Creek, Ohio, where he grew to man's estate. About 1820 he came to Butler County, Pennsylvania, and settled in Jackson Township, residing near Zelienople for about twenty years, when he purchased a tract of land in Cranberry Township, where he remained until his death. [TCHBC, 855]
