General Notes: Husband - John Gorsuch

He was of Scotch extraction. The family were Protestants, and strict adherents of the old Covenanters church. John came to America when a young man and settled in Maryland. He came across the mountains in 1798, when the Indians were numerous in Pennsylvania. He settled in Washington County, and at one time, when pursued by the Indians, swam the Ohio river with his son Robert on his back.

The immigrant ancestor of the family, he [David Gorsuch] was born in Scotland, and lived for a time in the eastern part of the state of Pennsylvania, later coming across the mountains with his family and settling in Allegheny County.
