He was a native of Armagh, County Ulster, Ireland, who immigrated to America. After a brief stay at Baltimore, Maryland, in 1790, came to Pennsylvania, the Nittany Valley, and secured land in Centre County, where he spent his re-maining years.
He and his wife reared a family of four children.

He was born in county Armagh, Ireland. He came to America in 1788 and in the following year located in Centre County, Pennsylvania, acquiring land in the rich Nittany Valley, where, as a farmer, he passed the remainder of his life.
He had five children, two of them being born after he reached Centre County.
