General Notes: Husband - Hon. Cyrus Gordon

He studied law in Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania, was admitted to practice, and then moved to Clearfield, where he enjoyed a large practice, and about 1896 was elected President Judge of that District, although the po-litical party to which he was an adherent was largely in the minority.

He was born at the old family home in Centre County, Pennsylvania, and as his par-ents appreciated the value of a good education he was given excellent advantages, of which he made good use, graduating from Pennsylvania State College in 1866. He then attended the law department of Michigan University, com-pleting the course in 1869. In the following year he located in Clearfield, where he engaged in his profession. In 1893 he was elected, on the Republican ticket, to the office of president-judge of Clearfield County. He was especially interested in educational advancement, and became a trustee of his Alma Mater, Pennsylvania State College, where so many sons and daughters of the Commonwealth prepared for their life's work. He was a leading member of the Presbyterian Church, and he and his wife were prominent in the social life of the locality.

He was afforded better educational opportunities than were many young men of his time, and in 1866, after several years of study was graduated from the Pennsylvania State College, with the degree of Bachelor of Science. He was a trustee of the college, as a representative of the alumni for a great many years. After his graduation from the Pennsylvania State College he entered the University of Michigan and in 1869 was graduated from the law department of that institution with the degree of LL. B. He then came to Clearfield, Pennsylvania, and made that borough his home. There was little important litigation in the courts of the county in which his professional services were not in some way engaged. For the term of nineteen years prior to his election to the bench he was associated with Hon. Thomas H. Murray in the practice of law under the firm name of Murray and Gordon. In 1893 he was elected to the office of president judge of Clearfield County. After his term on the bench had expired he was for many years one of the solicitors of the Dairy and Food Division of the Department of Agriculture of Pennsylvania. He was reared in the Republican party and never changed his political allegiance.
He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church.
He owned the farm of 200 acres at Hecla Park, Centre County, where he was born and reared.
