General Notes: Husband - Clinton Plumer Gordon
He spent his working life as an independent oil producer. As a young man he went to Butler County, Pennsylvania, to drill. Attending a pie social, he was spotted and because of his appearance dubbed "Colonel Gordon-Gordon" by the Murtland sisters, who lived in the area. Joanna Jane, a black-eyed beauty, declared she was going to marry that man. And indeed she did. They made their home on Bully Hill in a house which he built next to his father's home. There they raised their family not only in comfort but also in affluence. Their children attended the Graham School, a comfortable walk away, for their early education. The two older children, Roy and Oma, married early, but the four younger children were sent to boarding school.
For a short time he was in partnership with his two sons, Roy and Budd, in Franklin; they had the Buick agency on 12th Street. This was dissolved at his death. At the time he was living in Bessemer, Pennsylvania, where he owned leases. His widow continued to live there for a short time and then moved to the original Gordon homestead on Bully Hill. This house had been purchased by her son-in-law, Charles Richey, and renovated for her.
