General Notes: Husband - Samuel H. Rodgers
He spent his early years on the old family homestead in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Until he was sixteen years old he attended Jamestown Seminary; then removed to the state of Kansas, where he followed the carpenter's trade until he was twenty-five years of age. He subsequently spent many years as a stirring figure in the southwest, owning land in Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma, where he engaged both in ranching and, as opportunity offered, followed his trade as a carpenter. He served as deputy sheriff in Castro County, Texas, building its court house as well as its first hotel. He became a prominent Republican, holding a position in the secret government service and as government agent at Fort Reno, under appointment of President Garfield, during the commencement of his public service, in 1881, making a trip to his old Mercer County home. He spent the later years of his life in Oklahoma, when not engaged in official business, working at his trade as a carpenter.
After the death of his wife in Kansas, their children were brought to Pennsylvania and placed in care of their grandparents.
