General Notes: Husband - Jacob Ridinger Gongaware
He received a common school education. He was but four years old when his father died, and he was then sent to the home of his grandfather, Jacob Gongaware, in the Manor Valley. Here he remained until the age of fifteen or sixteen, when he went with his uncle, Lewis Gongaware, who resided nearby, remaining there four or five years. The following three years were spent with the Westmoreland Coal Company, at Penn Station, Pennsylvania, after which he transferred to the works at Armstrong, remaining there until about 1888, when he took up farming again. In June, 1891, he purchased a farm in North Huntingdon township, and lived there continuously with the exception of four years which he spent on a farm near Herminie, Pennsylvania, returning to his home place in 1899. He was always a Democrat.
