He was reared and always lived on the family farm. He received his educational training in the public schools and early turned his attention to agricultural pursuits. He assumed charge of the home place the year prior to his marriage, and kept the land under a high state of cultivation. Oil was developed on the property in 1888, and there came to be six paying wells on it.
