General Notes: Husband - Marcus Huling

He moved to near the Juniata River, Pennsylvania, about 1753. Marcus Hook was named for him.
They lived near the mouth of the river until the Indians became troublesome, pillaging and burning the homes of the settlers. He, fearing for the safety of his family, placed his wife and children on a big black horse. After going a short distance from their home he discovered he had forgotten something. He returned to the house to find an Indian in possession. He held a parley with the Indian in order that his wife might get further from the house. She waited at the river until she was convinced he had been killed by the Indians. She then urged the horse into the river. Notwithstanding the swollen condition of the river she gained the opposite shore in safety where she was joined later by her husband. [Allison Genealogy]
Marcus the elder was a noted scout and Indian fighter, one of Braddock's scouts during the French and Indian War. In 1763 he was in the garrison at Fort Pitt. [Allison Genealogy]
