General Notes: Husband - John Simcox Henderson

He was born July 7, 1828. [DRH, 58]

In the year 1858 he removed from Pennsylvania to Maquon, Illinois. He served in the Civil War, enlisting September 10, 1862, at Maquon, for a term of three years, and was mustered into the service January 7, 1863, at Peoria. He was assigned to duty as 2nd Lieutenant, Company A, 14th Cavalry; promoted Captain February 10, 1864. He resigned June 27, 1865. He removed to Seward, Nebraska, about 1875 where he conducted a sales stable, importing many horses from states farther east. He was a familiar figure on the streets of Seward, then an early frontier town. He was known by everyone as "Jack." For many years he was president of the Seward County Fair Association which he helped organize. He also owned and operated the first flour mill in the county. Although a veteran of the Civil War he would not become a member of the G. A. R. As a staunch Democrat, he took an active part in politics, but was never a candidate for office.

General Notes: Wife - Josephine Hamrick

After the death of her husband, she removed from Nebraska to California.
