He was born on the ocean, while his parents were on the voyage to America. He came to Venango County, PA, with his parents in the spring of 1798. After marriage, they settled on the old farm and remained there until 1868, then they moved to Illinois. They reared a family of six children, four sons and two daughters, three of which were deceased before 1879.
