General Notes: Husband - Isaac Meals
He was reared on the homestead farm, was educated in the common schools and at West Sunbury Academy, and graduated at Iron City College, Pittsburg, in 1867. The autumn after graduating he commenced teaching in his native township, which he followed during the winter seasons for five years, working on the farm in summer. He followed agricultural pursuits until February, 1891, when he was elected clerk of the board of county commissioners. Prior to his removal to Butler, he filled the office of county auditor, from 1871 to 1873. His family was connected with the Methodist Episcopal church, and in politics, he was a consistent Republican.
