General Notes: Husband - Asahel Griswold Lane
He was taken to Warren, Pennsylvania, by his widowed mother in 1815, where he grew up and early engaged in the lumber industry on the Allegheny and Ohio rivers. In 1832 he removed to Russell, also in Warren County. He served two terms, from 1865 to 1871, as treasurer of Warren county. He was a man of more than usual ability and of correspondingly high character, easily finding his place among the leading citizens of his county. When in 1840 he lost all his property that fire could destroy, and his remaining assets were by many thousands of dollars less than his liabilities, he neither proposed nor accepted compromise, but at once set about rebuilding his business from the foundation. His well directed energy won its deserved success, and long before his death he had recovered his loss, prospering steadily thereafter. He was a worthy descendant of his pioneer ancestor and held the respect and confidence of his community.
