He was one of the early settlers of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. About the time of the birth of his son, he visited Kentucky on some business, when he was thrown from his horse and killed.

He was a native of Scotland, and a farmer; came to America and settled in Butler County, Pennsylvania, at an early day.
