General Notes: Husband - Robert C. Hill
He made the most of his opportunities to obtain an education and earned the money with which to take a course in the Iron City College, from which he was graduated in the commercial course. He enlisted February 26, 1864, in Company I, Fifty-seventh Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and went south and with his command joined the Army of the Potomac. He participated in the battle of the Wilderness, where he was severely wounded June 7, losing several inches of the bone of his left arm. He was honorably discharged, from the hospital at Washington, D. C., September 28, 1864, and returned home incapacitated for manual labor. Though he made his home on his farm he was employed as weighmaster by the Mercer Iron and Coal Company for several years. Later he was elected county treasurer and at the expiration of his term of office returned to his farm, where he lived until 1897, when he removed to Colorado Springs, and lived retired.
