He was educated in the pub­lic schools, and remained at home, working with his father, following the occupation of farming all his life. About 1882 he took up his residence in Edinburg, Pennsylvania, locat­ing on a farm of about sixty-nine acres which was originally part of the old Whitehill home­stead.
