General Notes: Husband - John F. Gelwicks

He was the youngest in a family of ten children.

He was reared on a farm and remained with his father until his death; he then took charge of the old home place and resided there. His mother moved to a house that her husband had built a few months previous to his death, which was one of the most beautiful places in the county for a farm house. It was located near the mountain, in a valley nicely surrounded by trees, etc.
He farmed the whole of the homestead; also dealt in stock, making a specialty of fine graded Percheron horses and Durham cattle. He held the office of judge of elections for several terms; in the spring of 1886 he was elected justice of the peace.
