General Notes: Husband - Henry Franklin Gelbach
After passing through the public school, he took a course at the Butler Business College. For some years after finishing his education he devoted himself to farming, carrying on his agricultural projects on an extensive scale until 1917. At this time he became interested in a flour and feed business which was for sale, and together with Mr. Behm, he bought it from Mr. Barkey, who had been established in Evans City for a number of years. The new firm continued for only a year, Mr. Gelbach becoming sole owner in 1918. With the business now in his own name, he added to the lines which had been carried a new department, that of builders' supplies, no other firm in the city being engaged in that line of merchandise. The concern is today one of the most successful of that locality, its proprietor being known not only as a successful merchant, but also as a public-spirited citizen, taking an active interest in civic welfare. Politically, Mr. Gelbach supports the Democratic Party. He is fraternally connected with the Knights of Pythias, in which order he is a Past Chancellor; Independent Order of Odd Fellows; and the Knights of Malta. He is also a member of the United Commercial Travelers. [PAH, 350]
