General Notes: Husband - Howard Marsh Stoner
He was given the advantages of a liberal education, going from the high school of his native borough to Findlay College, Findlay, Ohio, whence he was graduated in the class of 1912, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. He first elected to enter upon a banking career, and joined the staff of the Citizens Savings and Trust Company at Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania, of which he was assistant treasurer. But the end of seven years in that connection found him eager to engage in a more active pursuit, one better suited, perhaps, to his tastes. He had had his mind set for some time on the printing business as a most desirable vocation, and gratifying that ambition he purchased, in 1919, the Keystone Printery, which he conducted under his own name until 1923. In March of that year, he became a co-partner of Albert Clark Queer, and together they became proprietors of the Mount Pleasant "Journal," purchasing the property of John L. Shields. The "Journal" was a weekly publication, and one of the oldest of the newspapers in Westmoreland County. Mr. Stoner and Mr. Queer, having consolidated the printery and the newspaper plants, both businesses flourished under the joint ownership, and the circulation of the "Journal" rapidly mounted. The publishing and printing offices and plants were housed at 29-33 South Church Street, Mount Pleasant.
Mr. Stoner was affiliated with Marion Lodge, No. 562, Free and Accepted Masons, Scottdale; Urania Chapter, No. 192, Royal Arch Masons, Greensburg; Kedron Commandery, Knights Templar, Greensburg; Olivet Council, Royal and Select Masters, Greensburg; Uniontown Lodge of Perfection; Pennsylvania Consistory, Pittsburgh; and Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Rotary Club and the Pittsburgh Press Club. His religious fellowship was with the Presbyterian Church.
