He was educated in common schools of Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, at Houtzdale, at Mooresville, Huntingdon County, and at Stone Valley Academy. He read medicine under Dr. George W. Lupfer, studied two terms at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Baltimore, Maryland, graduated in the spring of 1895 at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, with honors, and beginning August of that year commenced a successful practice at Glasgow, Cambria County. He was a member of P. O. S. of A.
