He was educated at the public schools of the Fourth ward in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and at the Western University of Pennsylvania, after which he engaged in the drug business, in which he was quite successful for a time and then engaged in the confectionery business as bookkeeper for the firm of Raymond & Anderson. Subsequently he embarked in the oil business as a refiner. After following this for some time he entered the steel business, being in the employ of Woods & Anderson; the last named member of the steel manufacturing firm was Robert Anderson, who was the subject's brother. Anthony D. was the manager of the business up to the date of his death. In politics he voted the Republican ticket and in religion was of the Methodist Episcopal faith. He was connected with the Masonic fraternity.
