He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was brought by his parents, an infant, when they permanently removed to Washington, Pennsylvania. After his father retired from the editorship, he continued to be connected with The Examiner until May, 1861, when he removed to Meadville, Pennsylvania, there becoming proprietor and editor of The Crawford County Democrat, and continued to edit it for more than twenty years, when he retired on account of ill health.
