He emigrated with his parents from Ireland to America in 1832. They landed in Philadelphia, but located at New Lisbon, Columbiana County, Ohio, where they lived for a short time and then removed to Mahoning County, thence to Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1836, and finally to Cranberry Township in 1839, where they purchased 400 acres of land, only four acres of which was cleared.
