General Notes: Husband - Henry Altman
He was born on the old Altman family homestead. This tract was taken up about 1796, when his father was about eight years of age. On this farm was a part of the site of the old town of Newport, commonly called the "Deserted Village." Mrs. Altman stated that when she was married her mother gave her a table cloth which had been bought at one of the stores in that place. On the level tract between the Altman house and the creek is said to have been an Indian camping ground. Bars of lead and other Indian relics were found. This farm lay enclosed between Black-lick creek and the Conemaugh river, and was one of the oldest and best known places in Indiana County. There was an old graveyard on part of the farm where many of the Altman pioneers were buried.
