General Notes: Husband - Dr. John Albert Hartmann, D.D.S.
He was brought by his mother to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1861, and was reared on his maternal grandfather's farm until he was sixteen years of age. He then began the study of dentistry with Dr. A. C. Keepers of Latrobe. After two years study he entered the old Philadelphia Dental college in 1878 and the next year became a student in the Philadelphia School of Anatomy. He was graduated from both these institutions in 1880. From the former January and from the latter February 13. He was one of the youngest students that ever graduated from either of these well-known schools. In the summer of 1880 he came to Latrobe, engaged in the active practice of dentistry and succeeded in building up a large, profitable and desirable practice. His dental parlors were in Citizens' National Bank building. In dental surgery he has made a specialty of fine gold work, such as gold crowns and delicate platings.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Heptasophs, Loyalhanna Lodge, F. A. M., No. 275, and the Presbyterian church.
He received his elementary education in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and later entered the Philadelphia School of Anatomy, from which he graduated. In 1880, in his twentieth year, he completed a course in the Philadelphia College of Dentistry, receiving the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery. Returning to Latrobe, Dr. Hartmann at once began practice. He was eminently successful and was among the prosperous and prominent citizens of the place. Dr. Hartmann was a member of the Masonic order and was one of the past masters of his lodge there. He was a member of the Westmoreland County Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, Odontological Society of Pennsylvania and the Latrobe Club. He was affiliated with the Republican party, and was a Presbyterian in his religious belief, attending the church of that denomination in Latrobe.
He was very fond of outdoor life and found recreation in fishing and shooting.
