General Notes: Husband - William Irvine Alter
At the age of sixteen he started a weekly paper called the Parnassus News which he conducted successfully for nearly two years. Later he printed a little weekly paper at Verona, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
He was educated at Westminster College and began newspaper work early. He was the founder of the "Keystone," a journal of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, and later founded and edited the "Verona News." In 1906 he went to California, and made his home at Long Beach. He was manager of the "Press," of Long Beach, and a prominent newspaper man in that part of the country.
