He received a common school education and later attended the Greensburg Seminary. After leaving school he engaged in the real estate business, and for some years was connected with the Westmoreland Savings & Trust Company. He was one of the directors of the Westmoreland Grocery Company and the Greensburg Finance Company; one of the organizers and directors of the Pleasant Unity National Bank; and director of the Westmoreland & Savings and Trust Company. Politically he was a staunch supporter of the Republican party. He also served as treasurer of the borough of Greensburg. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church, and of the B. P. O. E., Lodge No. 511.

His education was received in Greensburg Seminary. After leaving school, his first position was that of clerk in a dry goods store, where he remained for a period of six years. He then entered the real estate and insurance business under his own name and continued to operate this business, with growing success, until the founding of the Westmoreland Savings and Trust Company, which was later consolidated with the Barclay Mercantile Company. He resigned his position with them on July 1, 1921, to organize the Union Trust Company, at which time he became treasurer of the new institution, in which he was also a director. The Union Trust Company was a member of the Federal Reserve System, capitalized at $400,000, with a surplus of $40,000, and a strong trust department. Mr. Hudson was also a director of the Keystone Laundry Company, the Westmoreland Grocery Company, the Greensburg Eastern Coal Company, the Economy Fuel Company, and the Hotel Rappe Company. He was a Republican in politics and served two terms as councilman. Among his clubs were the Greensburg Country Club, the Hannastown Country Club, Oakmont Country Club, and the Kiwanis Club, and he was affiliated with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
