He was educated at the California State Normal school, after which he entered the college of Physicians and Surgeons at Baltimore, Maryland, from which institution he was graduated in 1881. Immediately after graduation he located at Webster, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he then engaged in the practice of his profession and met with excellent success. He was a republican in politics and like his father was a member of the Disciple church, while his wife belonged to the Methodist church.
