He was educated at Westminster and Geneva colleges, and later took a course in medicine at Pittsburgh Medical College, Pittsburgh, from which he graduated in June, 1895. He then took post-graduate courses at Philadelphia, New York City and Berlin, Germany, after which he returned to his native region and began practicing in New Kensington, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
