General Notes: Husband - William Smith Amberson
He received his education in the common schools and at the academy in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. He remained on the farm with his parents until he was twenty-six years of age, when he engaged as clerk in a store for two years. He came to Waynesboro, Franklin County, in 1840 and thereafter was in mercantile business. For thirty-two years he was a partner of Peter Benedict in the dry goods business, but beginning in 1883 he dealt in coal and grain, and was very successful. For several years he was president of the First National Bank of Waynesboro. Politically he was a Republican, and served two terms as county auditor of Franklin County; was on the school board; was a member of town council. Mr. Amberson was a member of the Presbyterian Church of which he was an elder for many years.
He and his wife had five children, three of whom were still living in 1887-one daughter and two sons.
