General Notes: Husband - Samuel Marks

He and his wife were natives of Washington County, Pennsylvania, but later in life moved to West Virginia, where General Marks bought a farm of six hundred acres and conducted large farming operations. He erected a fine stone mansion on his estate where he and his wife resided until their deaths, both aged over eighty years. On his farm the town of Chester was later built. General Marks was a soldier and his father is credited with having been the first manufacturer of powder west of the Allegheny Mountains.
