He was a cooper by trade, and although a farmer during the greater part of his life, never abandoned his calling. After his marriage he moved to the farm later occupied by his son Amos and there passed the remainder of his days. At one time he held the office of [township?] supervisor. He was a Democrat and a member of the Lutheran church.
