General Notes: Husband - William Stoner

He obtained a common school education and engaged with his father in the cultivation of the home farm until he was twenty-one years of age. He then went to Iowa, where he remained but a short time. Returning to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, he engaged in the cheese business for three years, and met with good success in this line. He removed, in 1873, to Tarrs Station, where he engaged in the general mercantile business. He was the first postmaster at that place, appointed by David M. Kee, during the administration of President Hayes, and was also extensively interested in the coal and coke business. He sold out to the H. C. Frick Company in 1885, and returned to the home farm. He was an excellent farmer, and also operated a large and lucrative stock raising business. In political relations Mr. Stoner was a Republican, and served his township as auditor, school director, and in several minor offices. He succeeded his father as a member of the directorate of the Farmers' and Merchants' National Bank. Mr. Stoner was elected director of the poor of Westmoreland County in 1898, and re-elected the following year, serving four years.

He was a farmer; he was a director of the Merchants' and Farmers' National Bank of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and a director of the Mennonite Cemetery Association.
