General Notes: Husband - Philip R. Tarr

He was educated in the common schools of the neighborhood, and remained on his father's farm until 1853. He then drove an ox team across the plains to California, locating near the city of Stockton, where he remained for nineteen years, engaged in farming and freighting. He went to Idaho territory in 1864, where he engaged in mining for nine months, achieving considerable financial success. At the expiration of this period of time he returned home and remained with his father for nine months, after which he returned to California and was a resident of that state for three years more. He then returned to his native county, Westmoreland, and thereafter gave his entire attention to farming and droving, finding a ready sale for his products in the nearby markets. For more than fifty years Mr. Tarr was a member of the I. O. O. F., in which he has passed all chairs.
