He was born in County Donegal, Ireland, and coming to America with his family in about 1822, settled in what later became Wayne township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Here he spent the remainder of his life.
He was a democrat in politics and a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Wayne township.
