General Notes: Husband - John Mead
He was born at Hudson, New York, and removed with his parents to Wyoming, [Pennsylvania?,] thence to the north branch of the Susquehanna. He accompanied his brother David to the valley of French Creek, being also one of the original nine who made the first permanent settlement in Crawford County, in the spring of 1788. In the fall of the latter year he returned with his brother to Sunbury, and brought out his family. His land was a tract immediately above Vallonia, and his cabin stood on the west bank of French Creek, just east of the fair grounds, and between the stream and the ravine. Here he lived with his family, excepting during the dangerous period, from 1791 to 1794 inclusive, which he spent near the block-house of his brother, or at Franklin, working on his farm whenever the state of the times would allow him to prosecute his labors. With the close of Indian hostilities, he was enabled to devote all his energy to the improvement of his land, and being a very quiet, retiring man we hear nothing of him in connection with public affairs.
He grew to manhood in Sunbury, North-umberland County, Pennsylvania, where he married and had issue. He later moved to west-ern Pennsylvania, where both he and his wife died. [GPHAV, 868]
