General Notes: Husband - Joseph S. Stockdill

He and his brother George succeeded to the ownership of the family homestead, and George bought his brother's interest in 1861.

In early life he was engaged in mercantile business, but afterwards turned his attention to farming and removed to Wayne township, Armstrong County, where he owned two hundred and fifty acres of land which was underlaid with coal and other minerals. His farm was one of the most valuable in the county. He was well known as a stock-raiser for many years, but later retired from active life. He was a whig and a republican and served as school director of Wayne township. He was a member of the Protestant Episcopal church, in which he served for many years as a vestryman.
