General Notes: Husband - Joshua Gilger


He learned the carpenter's trade, and in 1853 engaged in the mer­cantile business and continued for three years, when he went to Iowa and engaged in carpenter work and contracting. In 1865 he returned to Oil City, PA, and engaged in the mercantile business. From 1868 to 1871 he operated in oil at Oil City and Pleasantville, PA, and in 1871 came to Hadley, PA, and established a present general store. In 1880 he was joined by his nephew, Mr. A. F. Gilger, and continued the business under the firm name of Gilger & Co. Mr. Gilger owned and operated a grist-mill in Perry Town­ship, Mercer County, for a number of years, and was engaged in farming in connec­tion with his store. Mr. Gilger was a member of the Adelphic Lodge No. 424, F. & A. M., of Jamestown; of the Greenville Chapter No. 212; G. W. Brown Lodge No. 592, I. O. O. F., of Hadley, and the A. O. U. W. of Clark's Mills. He and his family were members of the Hadley Methodist Episcopal Church. [HMC 1888, 1122]
